About eight hours ago I found out about a 1987 ABC Sitcom called “The Charmings,” and in that time I have made it my life’s work to research this idiotic show. In it, Snow White and her husband, Prince Charming have to adapt to suburban life in modern Los Angeles. Her evil step-mother lives upstairs with her mirror, played by Paul Winfield (Yes, the same Paul Winfield who was Emmy nominated for his performance in Roots). Also, they live with a dwarf.
Here’s an excerpt:
SNOW WHITE: Eric, I can’t live in the same house as her.
PRINCE CHARMING: Snow, she’s your stepmother.
SNOW WHITE: She’s a witch.
PRINCE CHARMING: Yes, but she’s family.
Then the doorbell rings and they spend ten seconds trying to figure out where the futuristic sound is coming from.
This is a real thing that happened. It was on for TWO SEASONS and competed for a time slot with The Cosby Show.
